COVID-19 in Egypt: 1,121 new cases, 13 deaths reported on Friday

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population on Friday reported 1,121 new coronavirus cases, 13 deaths, and 983 recoveries.

A total of 488,763 cases have been reported in Egypt, with 24,162 deaths and 418,462 recoveries.

Infections with coronavirus have been decreasing significantly over the past two weeks. New infections and deaths slashed to less than half of the rate in the same day of last month.

On February 5, Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population reported 2,298 new coronavirus cases, 58 deaths, and 1,985 recoveries.

The Head of the Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus at Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Hosni said on Friday that the number of infections and deaths is declining significantly, whether through official figures, or the percentages of visitors to private hospitals and chest disease clinics.

Hosni expected that Egypt reaches “square one” within two weeks at the latest, describing that stage, that the number of hospital admissions as a result of the virus infection will be equal to the number of hospital discharge as a result of recovery.

He stressed the importance of adhering to preventive measures during the coming period, not complacency as a result of the decline in infections, and commitment to receiving anti-virus vaccinations.

Hosni noted that the Health Ministry has intensified the door-knock campaign, which it recently launched with the aim of reaching all citizens to receive the vaccine, similar to the vaccination campaigns, noting that this campaign targets governorates that have a relative decline in the number of vaccine recipients.

He indicated that the campaign will provide the vaccine and visit the homes to reach the highest percentage of the vaccinated, and therefore these measures will accelerate the pace of achieving societal immunity against the virus.

Vaccinations with the third booster dose began on December 21 in Egypt.

Egypt was able in a short time to provide all coronavirus vaccines, including Sinovac, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Sputnik, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna, as part of the state’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of coronavirus vaccines.

The Ministry of Health and Population called on citizens to register on the ministry’s website to receive the vaccine, stressing that the state spares no effort in providing vaccines to citizens for free, through permanent cooperation with international organizations and bodies.
