Egypt in contact with Saudi authorities over pharmacist’s murder

Egyptian authorities are in contact with Saudi Arabia over the killing of an Egyptian pharmacist, Mohamed Faisal, 43, in Saudi Arabia, who was shot at his workplace.

Faisal was killed on Thursday while working at the al-Amwah district of Asir Province, Saudi Arabia.

The Egyptian Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Expatriates Affairs, Soha Gendi, said that the ministry has communicated with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the Consul General in Saudi Arabia.

Gendi said that the Egyptian Consulate sent a delegate to attend the investigations with the Saudi authorities and take legal measures.

The delegate will view CCTV recordings from the scene, hear the testimonies of witnesses, and the follow progress of the investigations to identify the perpetrator.

Gendi stressed her confidence in the legal procedures and that the investigative authorities in Saudi Arabia have taken all necessary measures.

She said that as soon as the investigation authorities allow, the ministry will proceed with the transfer of the body to Egypt, and follow up the full dues of the deceased.

The head of Pharmacists Syndicate at Buhaira, Ahmed Zalouk, said in a statement that legal measures are being taken to bring the pharmacist’s body to Egyptian territory.

And the head of al-Beheira Governorate Pharmacists Syndicate (the birthplace of the late pharmacist) said that they learned of the killing of Faisal after a call from the Egyptian embassy in Saudi Arabia with his family.

Mai Faisal, the sister of the late pharmacist, confirmed the news of his death, without disclosing the causes or circumstances of death.

While Mostafa Faisal, the deceased’s brother, explained: “One of his colleagues and an employee from the Egyptian embassy in Saudi Arabia called me, and informed me that he was shot while he was working, and he was taken to the hospital and died there.”

He demanded that the body of his brother be returned to Egypt for burial in his hometown.

Social media users shared posts with a hashtag calling for retribution, and demanding the Saudi authorities to quickly arrest the perpetrator and bring him to trial.
