An informed Egyptian source on Tuesday said that Egypt’s respect for its international obligations and treaties will not prevent it from using all options to preserve its national security and the rights of the Palestinian people.
State TV reported the source as saying that Egypt has warned Israel against the repercussions of its escalating violence against Gaza and rejected any coordination with it regarding the Rafah crossing.
“The Israeli media deliberately publishes incorrect news to divert attention from the state of confusion that Israel is suffering from internally,” the source said.
“The Egyptian position has been consistent regarding the Israeli aggression from the first moment and puts Egyptian national security and the rights of the Palestinian people at the top of its priorities,” he added.
Recently published satellite images showed a mass exodus of Palestinians from the city of Rafah, located in the far south of Gaza Strip, earlier in May before an Israeli ground operation there.
The departures come at a time when Israel threatens a military operation for the entire city, which has sparked international concern.
Before the Israeli evacuation orders were issued roughly 1.3 million Palestinians took refuge in southern Gaza, according to the United Nations.
