Egyptian Premier League may be canceled this season: TV host Amr Adib

Egyptian TV host Amr Adib, the presenter of “al-Hekaya” (The Story) show broadcast, said there is a possibility that the Egyptian Premier League will be canceled this season or that sporting activities will be suspended due to the Pyramids FC dispute.

During his show on Friday, Adib said: “Some were skeptical of my words, but in the past few hours, we have seen official statements discussing the possibility of suspending sporting activities, not announcing the league champion and postponing it, or canceling the league this season altogether.”

“It’s clear that Pyramids FC is currently sending correspondence and complaints to international bodies, complaining about what’s happening in the Egyptian League. When I spoke about this recently, the probability of it happening was 10 percent, but now it’s 50 percent.”

Adib concluded, “Apart from the rivalry between Ahly and Zamalek, and who will win the league, I care about achieving justice. Egyptian football has become poorly represented compared to the leagues around us, and we are unable to organize a proper sporting competition.”

The crisis dates to March 11, after Al-Ahly forfeited its Egyptian Premier League match against Zamalek following complaints that its request for a foreign referee were not met.

The Pyramids FC in April had withdrawn their request for foreign referees for the Al Ahly match following the Egyptian Professional Football Clubs Association’s recent decision not to deduct points from Al Ahly at the end of the season, stemming from the derby match controversy against Zamalek.
