Egyptian stock market up 1.57%

The Egyptian Stock Exchange rose notably on Sunday, with foreign investors tending to buy amid a wave of selling by Egyptian and Arab investors.

The EGX 30 index rose by 1.57 percent, gaining 100 points, to close out at 6519. The price index, meanwhile, rose by 1.9 percent, with 131 company shares rising in value compared to 33 losers.

Total transactions for the day amounted to LE4.5 billion.

In a related development, national fixed-line provider Telecom Egypt announced its willingness to increase its mobile-phone market share by negotiating the purchase of additional shares of Vodafone Egypt, of which it already owns 45 percent.
