Gas explosion at Tanta church leaves 3 injured

A blast caused by a gas cylinder explosion devastated the Mari Girgis Church in Tanta city, north of Cairo, on Saturday, leaving three injured.

Pastor Azeez Ibrahim as well as his wife and daughter were those injured.

The pastor was trying to fill a small cylinder with gas, a source said. Leaked gas resulting from the transfer caused the fire.

Neighbors contacted the fire department and gathered outside the church. The fire department extinguished the fire after some time.

Coptic Christians are believed to represent around 10% from Egypt’s population.
