Hamas announces temporary 4-day ceasefire with Israel thanks to Egypt and Qatar

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas announced at dawn on Wednesday, that it had reached a humanitarian truce agreement in Gaza for a period of four days thanks Egyptian and Qatari efforts, an urgent news broadcast by Al-Arabiya channel reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said on Wednesday that the government voted in favor of the proposed agreement to release some detainees in Gaza.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that “50 women and children will be released within four days, during which the fighting will stop,” according to Reuters.

However Israel pledged to “continue its war” against Hamas after the end of the truce, Agence France-Presse quoted the Israeli government as saying.

The Israeli Haaretz newspaper previously quoted an Israeli and American official as saying that under the deal, 30 children, eight mothers and 12 other women would be released during a four-day ceasefire, in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
