Heatwave alert – Egypt faces peak temperatures and Khamsin winds on Thursday

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a warning regarding current weather conditions across the country, as Egypt reaches the peak of a significant heatwave accompanied by active Khamsin winds.

Most regions will experience hot to extreme heat, though conditions remain slightly milder on the North-Western coast, with moderate temperatures persisting at night as nationwide heat levels hit their maximum.

Cairo is expected to reach a high of 37C on Thursday, with temperatures cooling down to 23C overnight.

Rainfall and thunderstorms

Despite the heat, the forecast includes a chance of light to moderate thunderstorms over parts of the Red Sea mountain range, Central and South Sinai, and isolated areas along the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba.

Similar conditions are expected in Sallum, Siwa, and Matrouh.

Dust storms and visibility

Wind speeds reaching 30–35 km/h will stir up sand and dust across Lower Egypt, Greater Cairo, the Canal Cities, and Sinai.

This may reduce horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 meters in certain areas, particularly in the Western Desert, Northern Upper Egypt, and open desert roads.
