High elections commission website: ‘Sorry, site temporarily down’

Egyptian expatriates on Thursday who tried to enter the High Election Committee’s website in order to register themselves for upcoming parliamentary elections encountered the following error message: “Sorry, the site is temporarily down due to traffic overload and will be back up soon.”

According to committee member Tarek Saad, the problem occurred because the website was receiving more than 6000 visits per second. “But we asked the Communications Ministry to increase our capacity,” he said.

Saad added that more than 200,000 expatriates have already registered themselves, of whom 83,121 live in Saudi Arabia; 35,301 in Kuwait; 22,309 in the United Arab Emirates; 11,658 in the United States; 11,619 in Qatar and 5803 in Canada.

The site was also visited by people living in Egypt because they wanted to check information about electoral districts.
