How effective is drinking lots of water during suhur?

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population refuted the common belief that drinking large amounts of water during suhur prevents thirst during fasting hours.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry explained that while water intake is essential for maintaining hydration, suddenly drinking large quantities before the start of the fast will not prevent thirst, as the body instead gradually eliminates excess water.

The optimal approach is to distribute water intake at regular intervals between Iftar (breaking the fast) and suhur, while ensuring a balanced suhur meal containing nutrients, such as vegetables, fruits, and fiber-rich foods.

This supports the body’s ability to endure the fasting hours without fatigue or dehydration.
