Investigations into 2008 Hussein bombings resumed

The State Security Prosecution relaunched investigations into the bombings that took place in el-Azhar neighbourhood in Cairo in May 2008. The bombings left one French citizen dead and several other Egyptians injured.
The security has arrested last month one of the two chief suspects who came from Gaza. The suspect has been hiding for one and a half years, but his name has not been disclosed. He was referred to the State Security Prosecution and the investigations resumed.
The new suspect was arrested when infiltrating through Egypt’s borders with Gaza. The Prosecution charged him with carrying out the bombings. He was also accused of illegally entering the country and of leading a militant group and supplying it with arms.

Ramdan el-Arabi, the suspect’s lawyer, denied all the charges and said his client has no connection with them.

The Egyptian security had arrested  a number of European suspects from Belgium, France and Britain, as well as several Egyptians and Palestinians. But all 11 suspects were released last February after one year of investigations.
The Prosecution ordered the imprisonment of the new suspect pending investigations.
