Italy deports 79 Egyptians for illegal residency

Italian authorities have deported 79 Egyptians from Italy due to illegal residency, an Egyptian foreign affairs official said Tuesday.

Ambassador Mohamed Abdel Hakam, assistant foreign minister for consular affairs, warned of the consequences of illegal immigration.

He said European authorities could impose penalties such as fines, prison and deportation.

Abdel Hakam also stressed the need to impose strict punishments on those who help citizens immigrate illegally.
