Labor, social protests persist in Cairo

Scores of people with special needs protested outside the Cairo governorate’s headquarters on Thursday, demanding the title deeds of housing units that they had applied for earlier.

Cairo Governor Abdel Azim Wazir said he approved 3000 applications for housing units. He added, however, that he had declined another 1000 that were found to be ineligible.

At the same time–and in the same place–employees of government’s Information and Decision Support Center also staged protests, demanding permanent contracts with the respective branches they work for. They later joined colleagues that have been staging sit-ins before Cairo’s parliament building for three consecutive days.
