Minister: Clubs to go bankrupt if premier league is suspended

Clubs will go bankrupt if the football league is suspended again, the Minister of Youth and Sports Khaled Abdel Aziz told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Monday.

"Al-Ahly Club President Mahmoud Taher has told me that his club will go bankrupt if this happens," the minister said.

Clubs have demanded the transfer of games to Cairo stadiums, but they have to assume the responsibility for the security situation, according to Abdel Aziz.

Football fans have called on officials of the Egyptian Football Association to cancel this season’s matches to mourn the 22 victims killed in clashes with security forces during the Zamalek-ENPPI match on 8 February 2015, after which Egypt announced that the national league championship will be suspended indefinitely.

The Cabinet announced on 18 March that the football premier league would resume on 30 March, without spectators.
