Liverpool football superstar Mohamed Salah issued a tweet on Saturday evening regarding the death of Palestinian player Suleiman al-Obeid, nicknamed “Palestine’s Pele”, which went viral and surpassed millions of views in just one hour – a new record.
Obeid died on Wednesday morning after being shot by the Israeli army while waiting for humanitarian aid in the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
UEFA posted a photo of the late Palestinian player on its X account, commenting: “Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the ‘Palestinian Pelé’. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”
Salah then reposted the tweet with the following comment: “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?”
Salah’s tweet surpassed six million views in just one hour, now reaching up to 67.4 million views.
