Mysterious man offers to buy land on Egypt-Gaza border

A man calling himself General Gabri has approached various tribes in Sinai, offering to buy all the land around the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Gabri reportedly asked local tribes to set the price they want, even if it is higher than the real value of the land.

Most of the land is owned by the El-Sawarka and El-Rumaylat tribes, with the rest belonging to more than 20 other tribal groups. The land extends over 14km, with a width of 1500 meters, part of which is inside the strip. The total area is worth tens of millions of pounds.

The mysterious businessman told the tribes he intends to convert the area into a free trade zone, and offered them to be his partners. Tribal leaders have reported the incident to the police, who are currently investigating the matter.
