National Human Rights Council praises conditions at Qena prison

A delegation from the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), headed by council vice president Moqbel Shaker, praised the facilities at Qena General Prison after touring its premises on Sunday.

The delegation asked prisoners about their living conditions and distributed a questionnaire to both prison employees and those incarcerated. The questions were based on international agreements governing human rights in detention facilities.

The prisoners reported that the administration took adequate care of them, in addition to connecting them with professional training programs.

The delegation also visited the prison hospital–to ensure it was well-equipped with proper equipment and medication–as well as the prison bakery, kitchen and other facilities.

In addition, the delegation attended some literacy workshops and other cultural and educational training.
