Cairo continued its meetings with Palestinian factions on Friday, aiming to formulate a unified national vision for the second phase of the ceasefire agreement concluded earlier in October and achieve a unified consensus on implementing the next phase of the agreement.
Egypt is also intensifying its contacts with Washington to consolidate the ceasefire and achieve just peace in the region.
Sources participating in the meetings confirmed that it is discussing several issues, particularly the formation of the “community support” committee proposed by Cairo, over which no major disagreements have been recorded among the factions.
They explained that the issue of Hamas giving up its weapons is not currently up for discussion, as it is a supreme national issue that can only be resolved through comprehensive Palestinian consensus.
According to the sources, the Palestinian factions have authorized Egypt and the political leadership to fully manage the Gaza issue, including formulating a vision for ending the war and lifting the Gaza blockade.
The factions emphasized that Cairo is handling regional and international contacts to consolidate the truce and advance reconstruction.
Hamas reiterated its full commitment to the details of the ceasefire agreement and stated that it has received clear guarantees from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, along with direct confirmations from the US, that the war is effectively over and that implementing the terms of the agreement represents a complete end to it.
In a statement issued after their meeting on Friday in Cairo, the Palestinian factions confirmed that they had agreed on five basic items regarding the next phase of the ceasefire:
- Supporting and continuing to implement the ceasefire agreement measures
- Handing over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a temporary Palestinian committee of independent “technocrats” from the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with Arab partners and international institutions
- Establishing an international committee to oversee the funding and implementation of the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip
- Taking all necessary measures to maintain security and stability throughout the Gaza Strip
- Calling for an end to all forms of torture and violations against prisoners in Israeli prisons
- Continuing joint efforts to unify visions and positions to confront the challenges facing the Palestinian cause, including calling for an urgent meeting of all Palestinian forces and factions to agree on a national strategy and revitalize the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
