Palestinian killed in tunnel collapse

A Palestinian worker was killed Monday when a tunnel crossing Egypt's border with Gaza collapsed.

Adham Abu Seleima, an emergency official in Gaza, said the victim was 22-year-old Sami al-Nady, who lived in Khan Younis.

Since Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza in 2006, more than 160 Palestinians have died in the tunnels, which are used to smuggle goods from Egypt across the border.

Work in the tunnels decreased after Israel decided to ease the blockade, a response to international criticism raised last year after Israel prevented the Freedom Flotilla aid convoy from reaching Gaza.
