PM submits cabinet reshuffle request to ruling military council

Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Monday submitted a cabinet reshuffle request to the military council. In the request, he asked to change 11 ministers, including the deputy prime minister and the ministers of interior, justice, endowments, manpower, civil aviation, transport, electricity and military production.

An official source said Sharaf briefed the council on his meetings with all revolutionary coalitions, in which he discussed their demands with a view to ending their ongoing sit-ins.

Among the most pressing demands was the need to remove certain “undesired” ministers and governors, hold faster trials for police officers accused of killing demonstrators during the recent uprising and cleanse the interior ministry of corruption.

Meanwhile, as a symbolic gesture, protesters in Tahrir Square have unilaterally dismissed Sharaf for “deceiving” the revolution, and appointed Mamdouh Hamza, a prominent architect, in his place.
