A police sergeant was shot dead and one person was wounded on Thursday when unknown assailants fired at them in Cairo's southern suburb of Helwan, a security source told Aswat Masriya.
The assailants were riding a motorcycle when they fired at the private car that the sergeant was in with his nephew.
The perpetrators have fled.
It was not verified if the sergeant was killed for being a policeman or not.
