Prosecutors allege ‘Israeli spy’ incited attacks on police stations

The Supreme State Security Prosecution on Tuesday summoned Ilan Grapel, an Israeli citizen accused of spying on Egypt, and charged him with inciting the vandalism of public property.

Judicial sources said the prosecution obtained video clips of Grapel talking to demonstrators and urging them to burn down the Azbakeya Police Station. Grapel denies the allegations.

News reports had hinted that Grapel would be released during the visit of the US defense secretary, or be used in bargaining over the release of Egyptians detained in Israel.

The new charge, however, negates such reports, as Grapel would have to face trial.
