Qatar to host Hamas leadership in capital, Palestinian sources say

Qatar has agreed to host  Hamas political leadership in the Qatari capital Doha, Palestinian sources told a London-based paper.

In statements to Al-Hayat newspaper, the sources said Qatar has agreed to host Hamas political leaders but not military leaders.

Jordan, meanwhile, rejected a request to host Hamas, and Egypt agreed to allow the group to open an office in Cairo, the sources added.

The same sources said Hamas military leadership has probably returned to Gaza, a move likely motivated by the current unrest in Syria. The Syrian capital of Damascus hosts the movement's leadership.

They also said that Ahmed al-Jabari, a leader from Hamas' military faction, is currently in Cairo, where he met with the head of the Egyptian intelligence service.

They explained this might indicate that Egypt is once again sponsoring a deal for Hamas to release the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for the release of Palestinians in Israeli prisons.
