Relations to be normal with Israel if peace achieved with Palestine: Saudi Foreign Minister

In an interview with the French state-run media media outlet FRANCE 24, the Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir said on Thursday that his country has a road map to normalize relations with Israel, once a peace process begins to take shape.

“We have no relations with Israel, we have a road map for relations with Israel called the Arab peace initiative,” al-Jubeir said.

He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to a two-state solution based on relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, before dismiasing claims that his country may be acting in Israel’s favor.

“We believe that in the end we will have the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with minor mutually agreed adjustments determined by the two parties, with East Jerusalem as [the Palestinian] capital,” he said.

On the recent US decision proclaiming Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Jubeir maintained that his country believes the Trump administration is serious about achieving peace between Israelis and Arabs.
