Rights group blasts state TV for inciting violence

Official news outlets have incited violence and hatred, and have misled the public, the Association of Freedom of Thought and Expression said in a resport regarding coverage of events at Maspero and Mohamed Mahmoud Street.

The report said that state television monopolizes terrestrial transmission, thereby magnifying its effect on public opinion.

It said that the news bulletins were biased in favor of the Interior Ministry and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, and that they tended towards speculation and exaggeration. It accused state television of threatening national peace and security.

The association requested an investigation into the issue, and called for the dissolution of the Ministry of Information.
