Saudi religious police hq attacked

State-linked Saudi news website Ajel reported that assailants opened fire on the Riyadh headquarters of the country’s religious police, known as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

The website reported on Wednesday that no one was injured in the attack, which took place on Tuesday night when unknown assailants fired at the building in a drive-by attack.

Ajel and other Saudi media outlets said last week that the chief of the religious police in the ultraconservative province of Qassim, Fahd al-Khudeir al-Afaleq, was assassinated by unknown assailants.

Local media reported that al-Afaleq died in his home, from two bullets to the chest, and that the house was then set on fire in an attempt to cover up the crime.
