Second batch of Israel-Hamas prisoner swap near at hand after delay

Egypt succeeded in salvaging the exchange of hostages in the Gaza Strip and Palestinian prisoners after the second batch deal faltered on Saturday morning.

Implementation of the second phase of the deal went underway on Saturday evening as scheduled.

The Red Cross received 13 Israelis and four Thai citizens to be handed over to the Egyptian side, in preparation for their transfer to Israel.

Egypt received a list of the names of 39 Palestinians who will be released from Israeli prisons, according to Al-Qahera News channel.

Reuters reported that Egypt’s intervention contributed to resolving the delayed exchange deal between Hamas and Israel.

“The delay in releasing the second batch is due to Israel’s failure to adhere to the agreed upon prisoner release standards,” Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades announced earlier on Saturday.
