Sisi: Silence is best response to Turkish and Qatari insults

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said that silence is the best reply to insults made by Qatar and Turkey to Egypt.

The Egyptian president told Saudi newspaper Okaz, in the second episode of any interview published on Tuesday, that “talking about efforts or attempts for rapprochement require political will from both Qatar and Turkey so as to relieve tensions and restore the relations back to normal.”

The president wondered whether both states, vocal critics of Sisi’s regime and supporters of his ousted predecessor Mohamed Morsy, could take actual steps towards mending ties with Cairo.

Sisi stressed that his country does not handle regional issues from organizational or racial perspectives, adding that Egypt would not “slip into domestic Arab conflicts,” which merely gives more credibility and prevents stoking conflicts further.

The president added that Egypt’s position on the situation in Syria, Yemen and Iraq is “clear in aims at preserving the regional safety and popular unity of those countries, besides seeking political solutions to their crises.”
