Sisi warns of the dangerous consequences of Israel’s military operation in Rafah

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday received US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the Head of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.

Egypt’s presidential spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy stated that the meeting addressed the current situation in the Gaza Strip, with the aim of reaching a ceasefire and the exchange of detainees.

Sisi stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, as Palestinians face imminent humanitarian catastrophe and famine, and further warned of the serious consequences that any military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah will bring.

The president also called for urgent action to supply sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He further underlined the necessity of reaching a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The US Secretary of State praised Egypt’s efforts to push for calm, stressing his nation’s eagerness on coordinating to restore stability and security in the region.

Both sides agreed on the importance of continuing joint efforts in this regard, and the need to take all measures to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip.

They also jointly rejected the displacement of Palestinians from their lands.
