Sudan arrests suspected killers of Egypt soldiers

The Sudanese authorities on Monday arrested two men suspected of killing two Egyptian soldiers that had been part of international peacekeeping forces stationed in Darfur.

According to Magdi Radi, spokesman for Egypt’s Council of Ministers, a detailed report of the incident was submitted to the council by the defense minister. “The report says that two other Egyptian soldiers injured in the shooting are recovering well,” he said.

The council has issued a statement reiterating Egypt’s continued commitment to support peace and stability in Sudan.

Egyptian consul in Khartoum Mostafa Kamel said that preliminary reports indicated that the suspects did not belong to rebel Darfur movements.

The Sudanese foreign ministry has reportedly sent condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers.
