Syrian ambassador insults Araby and Arab ministers

Syrian Ambassador to the Arab League Youssef al-Ahmad directed abusive insults at Secretary General of Arab League Nabil al-Araby and other Arab ministers that participed in a recent meeting held at the league’s headquarters in Cairo, said Qatari Prime Minister Hamad Bin Jasim. The abuses followed a decision to suspend Syria's membership in four days if it did not end its bloody crackdown against anti-government protesters.

Bin Jasim said at a press conference in Cairo on Saturday that he could not reply likewise and use such derogatory words.

"I cannot talk that way. May God forgive him. We just aimed to help Syria," said Bin Jasim.

Bin Jasim added that Arab ministers would hold a meeting within a few days to impose economic sanctions against the Syrian regime.

He denied any intention to sue officials in the International Court.

"We are keen not to internationalize the crisis… We are still looking for the solution [within the bounds of] the Arab house," he said.
