Telecom Egypt in LE15 bn deal with Mobinil, Vodafone for international calls

Egypt’s sole landline telephone service provider, Telecom Egypt, said on Tuesday it signed a LE15 billion deal with mobile phone service companies Vodafone and Mobinil for infrastructure and international calls services.

In a press statement, Telecom Egypt, of which the government owns 80 percent, said the agreement lasts for five years with Mobinil and three years with Vodafone, adding it expects revenues of LE3 billion from the deal.

The deal will allow Mobinil and Vodafone, who were recently granted a government license to operate landline services, to use Telecom Egypt’s infrastructure instead of constructing their own.

It will also enable them to use Telecom Egypt’s international gateway service for international calls for four years.
