The US announced on Monday that it will suspend the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act against Syria, in order to support Damascus in rebuilding its economy.
The Caesar Act had imposed sanctions on various Syrian institutions, primarily targeting military forces.
The announcement coincided with the visit of Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa to the White House and his meeting with President Donald Trump.
The Syrian state news website, Al-Ikhbariya, cited a joint statement from the US Departments of State and Commerce, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury Department, announcing the suspension of the Caesar Act.
The statement also noted that it will allow the transfer of most US-origin goods for civilian use, as well as software and technology, to Syria without prior licensing.
The decision aims to support Syria’s efforts to rebuild its economy, achieve prosperity for all its citizens, and combat terrorism, it emphasized.
