Worldwide leading container shipping company Evergreen notifies Suez Canal of return to the Red Sea

The Taiwan-based company Evergreen Group sent a notification to the Suez Canal and logistical companies that it would resume navigation in the Red Sea and the shipping lane in the coming days, according to what Bloomberg reported from sources.

The sources, including a Suez Canal shipping official, said that the canal will receive the first Evergreen tankers next week after the notification it sent on Wednesday of its return to navigation.

Said tanker bears the name “Zeus” and is currently present in Saudi territorial waters, they added.

Shipping giant CMA CGM announced on Tuesday that it intends to gradually boost the number of vessels using the Suez Canal.

This comes days after Maersk announced that it would resume its operations in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, attributing its decision to deploying a military force led by the US to ensure the safety of trade in the Red Sea, where ships passing through are subject to attacks from Huthi militants supported by Iran.

The Red Sea crisis is casting a shadow over global trade, with container ships already turning to sailing around Africa to avoid the region.

Huthi militants in Yemen pledged to continue targeting ships in response to the Israeli war in Gaza.
