Hamas agrees to 24-hour truce

Hamas said it has agreed to a 24-hour humanitarian truce in Gaza as of 2 pm Sunday.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli army had resumed its military operations after the Palestinian factions refused to extend the truce.
“In light of Hamas continuing to launch rockets during the truce period which was agreed upon for the benefit of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army will now resume its air, naval and land attacks in Gaza,” the Israeli army said in a statement on Sunday. “The Israeli army will move with complete freedom, will intensify raids against the dens of terrorism and we call on the Palestinian population not to get close to the places of fighting in the Gaza Strip.”
The Israeli army also announced that two of its soldiers died on Saturday from wounds they sustained during last week’s invasion, Anadolu news agency reported.
This brings the total number of Israeli soldiers and officers who have been killed in Gaza since the start of the military operation against Gaza to 42, in addition to three civilians.
Meanwhile, more than 1,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since the invasion began, mostly civilians.
