International conference of Islamic arts to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh

The Arab Society of Arts and Islamic Civilization, in collaboration with the Al Maktoum Foundation and ISESCO and in cooperation with the prime minister's office, is organizing an international conference of Islamic arts in Sharm El-Sheikh on October 22 for two days.

The conference is entitled “Cultural and Civilizational Heritage between Tradition and Modernity in Islamic Art.”

Conference Chairman Mohamed Zeinhom said in a press statement on Thursday that many Arab and foreign scholars are attending, including the deputy speaker of the European Parliament.

He added that the conference highlights the civilized nature of Islam in the face of accusations of it being a religion that promotes violence and terrorism.

Salah Al Jafarawi, advisor to the Al Maktoum Foundation and ISESCO, said Ahmed al-Hashemi, member of the Al Maktoum Foundation Board of Trustees, will deliver the opening speech. He also reiterated Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s support for the cultural role of Arab and Islamic nations.

Maher Khudair, a Palestinian member of the organizing committee, called for addressing the continued attempts by Israel to blur the cultural and religious identity of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The conference gives an opportunity for scientists, philosophers and writers to conduct research that reveals the treasures and humanitarian values of the Arab and Islamic civilizations.
