Lawsuit to rescind Wael Ghoneim’s citizenship referred to State Commissioners

The Administrative Court on Sunday referred a lawsuit, which was filed by lawyer Samir Sabri demanding they revoke activist Wael Ghoneim's Egyptian citizenship, to State Commissioners.

The State Commissioners are to give their legal opinion before the August 25 hearing.

The lawsuit claims Ghoneim, a marketing manager at Google Middle East, portrayed himself as a patriot and a revolutionary, but turned out to be a tool of external forces. US authorities were the first to search for him as if he was their own man, says the lawsuit. This occurred when Ghoneim was held by Egyptian security forces for 12 days while demonstrators in Tahrir Square were being shot down.

The lawsuit also says that Ghoneim was in Dubai on January 25, 2011, then secretly arrived in Egypt the next day to participate in the January 28 demonstrations. At that point, the lawsuit claims demonstrations seemed to have increased.

It further alleges that Ghoneim had never been a revolutionary who suffered as did other Egyptians. As a result, he should not speak in their name, but rather admit he was a US agent planted in Egypt.

Lawyer Samir Sabri has filed most of his lawsuits against the Brotherhood, Hamas and young icons of the January revolution.
