Cuper signs contract to train national football team for $65,000 a month

Argentine coach Hector Cuper signed on Tuesday a contract to train the Egyptian national football team for US$65,000 a month.

Azmy Megahed of the Football Federation said that it is a three-year contract until the World Cup in Russia in 2018 and that the remuneration includes his assistant coaches and his translator. He also said that there is a penalty clause of $130,000 in the event the contract is terminated, adding that Cuper’s incentives for his winning matches would be determined according to the bylaws of the federation.

Yet he said the contract will be cancelled if the national team fails to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.

Sources said Board Chairman Gamal Allam did not attend the signing of the contract because he had objected to certain clauses, especially the monthly salary. They said he switched off his mobile phone so as not to have to answer questions by reporters as to why he did not attend.
