Egypt to manufacture solar panels soon: Head of Renewable Energy Authority

Head of the New & Renewable Energy Authority Mohamed Mousa announced on Sunday that Egypt will begin to manufacture solar panels soon, saying that the project will pave the way to launch other initiatives.

According to the state-run newspaper, Akhabr Al Youm, the solar panels will be attached to buildings that are being already established in Egypt’s New Administrative capital.

Moreover, he noted that there are already a number of current projects at the Arab Organization for Industrialization and other private sector companies to collect the solar panels, adding that his authority is seeking to manufacture the solar panels themselves not only collect them.

Recently, the Minister of the State for Military Production, Mohamed Saeed el-Assar, and President of Cairo University, Gaber Nassar, inaugurated a solar power station with a capacity of  660 kilowatts, enough to feed 13 buildings on the university campus and the building of the Arab Council for Postgraduate Studies.

Assar said that the station was set up by Benha Electronic Industries, a subsidiary of the National Organization for Military Production, which took three months to be built and contributes to providing electricity through permanent and clean energy.
