Activists and members of civil society organizations held a protest march at Cairo University on Tuesday to call for a Cairo "free of violence and sexual harassment."

Family and Population Minister Moushira Khattab, who participated in the march, said: “Women all over the world are subject to some form of violence or sexual harassment everyday.”

“Women in Egypt are reluctant to report cases of harassment,” the minister noted. “I urge them to inform us so that we can protect them.”

“I’m ashamed that such indecent behavior occurs in Cairo,” added Khattab, going on to describe it as "a new phenomenon.”
