Two people who had been injured in clashes between residents and security forces in Beni Suef Governorate died in a hospital on Thursday night, bringing the total number of dead to four.

Fighting broke out in Abu Selim village after Central Security Forces soldiers harassed some women, eyewitnesses said.

The clashes led to the death of 40-year-old Mahmoud Hamed Ali and 37-year-old Gaber Saeed Abdel Meguid as well as the injury of 10 others who were transferred to Beni Suef’s public hospital. Gamal Ali, 25, and Gaber Sayed, 27, passed away at the hospital late Thursday.

The residents called for the prosecution of police and security officials in Beni Suef, saying they did not intervene to stop the violence despite repeated appeals to the Abu Selim village police station and the Beni Suef Security Directorate.

Village residents said that Central Security Forces stationed in a camp in Abu Selim Village opened fire on them and used tear gas during the clashes. They demanded that the camp be moved from their village to a deserted area, stressing that it would be impossible for the soldiers to remain in the village following the bloody incident.

Local prosecutors inspected the site of the events and collected eyewitness accounts from residents and soldiers.
