Nurses accused of neglect in kidnapping remanded into custody

A judge from the South Giza Court has remanded two nurses from the Om al-Masryeen Hospital into custody for 15 days pending an investigation into charges of negligence that led to the kidnapping of a baby from the hospital nursery last Friday.

The court is summoning the hospital's director, as well as security officials, to hear their testimonies.

Investigations have so far revealed that there are no surveillance cameras in the hospital to help identify the kidnappers.

The father of the child said his three-day-old son was kept in the nursery because he was not fully grown and had a hole in his heart. “The nurses did not let me see him because his condition would not allow it,” he said. “Then they told me he was kidnapped.”

According to the investigation, the nurses had left the hospital after their morning shift when a hospital worker discovered the baby was gone.

The nurses claimed the baby was kidnapped when they were changing out of their uniforms and getting ready to leave.
