Negotiations between an Egyptian and a Palestinian family have led to an agreement to release a kidnapped Palestinian child in return for money.

Armed with weapons and shields, 12 Palestinians entered the Sinai Peninsula Tuesday morning and fired weapons into the air near an Egyptian family in the area around the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Rafah to pressure the family to return the child.

Mediators helped the two families reach an agreement, under which the child, reportedly kidnapped for six days, would be handed over to his family in exchange for a disputed LE200,000 that has caused problems between the families.

Hamas had informed Egyptian authorities two days ago that a Palestinian child "was kidnapped" inside Egypt and called for his swift release.
