Seti I mural repatriated from Britain

Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el-Damati has said that the ministry received a mural of Seti I that the Foreign Ministry repatriated from the United kingdom in October, adding that the piece was illegally excavated and smuggled out of Egypt.

“We will restore and display it with other repatriated artifacts at an exhibition in January,” the minister said.

Ali Ahmed, director general of the Department of Repatriated Antiquities, said the mural is made of limestone and is 43 x 67 cm. “It shows King Sti I with the goddess Hathor,” he said, adding that it also contains names of deities that were worshiped in the city of Assiut. “It has a particular significance because we have not so far discovered the king’s temple in Assiut.”
