Former Central Bank of Egypt Governor Mahmoud Abul Oyoun is the most likely nominee for prime minister, a source from the presidential office told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The source said the presidency had settled on Abul Oyoun after considering several other names, and that his nomination is expected to be announced soon.

News outlets have had mixed reports recently on the possible nominee for prime minister.

The nominee would replace Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri, who submitted his resignation after President Mohamed Morsy’s election. But the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces asked Ganzouri to remain in office until Morsy appoints his successor.

Some reports said the Muslim Brotherhood favors Khairat al-Shater, who had been the group’s first candidate for president until he was disqualified by the elections commission. Brotherhood youth created Facebook pages to support Shater, a prominent group leader.

Other reports had previously said Constitution Party founder and former UN nuclear watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei was a possible choice.

Morsy had vowed to appoint Cabinet members that represent all political groups once he is elected, and assured that the Brotherhood would not seek to dominate the new government.
