Osama Mostafa Hassan Nasr, who the FBI believes has links to al-Qaeda, said he has assigned an Italian lawyer to file a lawsuit before the Italian judiciary against the Egyptian Interior Ministry.

Nasr, better known as Abu Omar al-Masri, was abducted from his city of current residence, Milan and deported to Cairo, where he was allegedly tortured.  

In statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm, al-Masri said that the same Italian lawyer won his case against FBI officers. He added that he will sue the Egyptian Interior Ministry for €5 million compensation.

Al-Masri added that he has put together a file which includes medical reports concerning the injuries he received at the hands of Egyptian officers and the medical treatment he underwent at Manyal and prison hospitals.

Al-Masri who carries an Italian passport as he is a political refugee, said he has provided this documentary evidence to his lawyer, and that it includes additional medical reports from other political prisoners.

He said that he will file his lawsuit next week, adding that it will be the first of its kind against the Egyptian Interior Ministry. He will then take the lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights.

The FBI worked with the Italian intelligence service to abduct al-Masri, who worked as a mosque imam in Milan. He was then tortured and deported to Cairo. He was released in 2006, filed a lawsuit against several FBI officers, 23 of whom received punishments. He also got €5.5 million in compensation.
