Presidency to support the cinema industry

In a step to support the cinema industry, the presidency is considering the establishment of a holding company for the cinema industry to be independent of the current company that is affiliated to the Investment Ministry.

The company is to combat piracy, support movies of the youth and promote patriotic films.

National Security Adviser Fayza Aboul Naga met with a number of filmmakers last week to discuss ways to the rescue the industry to help the Egyptian cinema retain its leading role in the Arab region, as the presidency considers cinema an issue of national security and a soft power to develop social awareness and fight extremism.

Khaled Abdel Gelil, advisor to the culture minister, said the meeting addressed problems of production, distribution and festivals. “We also agreed to facilitate shooting foreign films in Egypt,” he said.
