3 dead as rainstorms continue in Gharbiya

Heavy rain and storms inundated several Egyptian provinces, killing three in Gharbiya on Thursday.

Gharbiya security department said three were killed by downed electric wires and five others were wounded when a house collapsed.

Citizens in rural areas of the province could be seen using buckets and water pumps to drain water from their homes.

Waheed Saudi, a spokesperson for the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, told Al-Masry Al-Youm the bad weather could last for another 48 hours with more rains and thunderstorms expected across coastal cities and the Sinai Peninsula.

“The EMA warned governors earlier this week that the country was going to witness inclement weather,” Saudi told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Thirteen people were reported dead in Beheira as of Thursday.

Late October, heavy rain killed five in Alexandria and triggered a public uproar that forced its former governor to resign.
