3 family members killed, 4 injured in Sohag building collapse

Three people from a single family were killed and four others were injured on Friday when an old, two-story building collapsed in the village of Sheikh Masoud in the Tahta district of Sohag Governorate.

Upon receiving an alert about the collapse, security forces, civil defense, and ambulances immediately rushed to the scene. Rescuers were able to pull out the bodies of the three victims, while the four injured individuals were taken to Tahta General Hospital for necessary treatment.

The bodies were placed in the hospital morgue pending an investigation by the relevant authorities.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the collapsed house was owned by a local villager and had been built years ago with mud bricks, which contributed to its structural weakness and eventual collapse.

In response to the incident, Major General Hassan Abdelaziz, Sohag’s Security Director, went to the site to inspect the collapsed building and take the necessary legal actions. The Public Prosecution also visited the scene for an on-site inspection.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmed El-Shatoury, Head of the Local Unit for the Tahta Center and City, visited Tahta General Hospital to check on the condition of the injured, emphasizing the need to provide them with medical care and all necessary support.
