41 political prisoners released in honor of 23 July revolution

Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy on Tuesday announced the release of 41 political prisoners in celebration of the 23 July revolution of 1952.

A committee, headed by the assistant interior minister for prison affairs, had examined the files of the prisoners and granted a pardon to those who had served at least half their sentences.

The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces after the 25 January revolution pardoned a number of political prisoners. Among those released were Abboud al-Zomor and Tareq al-Zomor.
